Who are you and where are you coming from?
My name is Cindy Bower and I'm coming from the Sunshine State of Florida, where the people are sometimes friendly and the weather is alot like The Bahamas except for the smog-the air here in The Bahamas is cleaner.
What is your activity right now?
Right now I'm retired. I use to be a school teacher but now I'm a professional beach bum and sometimes do volunteer work at schools here in Nassau and the family Islands, mainly Eleuthera
Tell us why you choose to move to The Bahamas
I first visited the Bahamas on spring breaks while in college some 20+ years ago. I fell in love with the place and the people and its always been a dream to move here. After the kids were out of the house, my husband and I started taking longer and longer vacations here. Then finally we made the decision to move here.
How long have you been in The Bahamas?
We've been living here for the past 3 1/2 years.
What do you miss the most, if anything?
I must say there's nothing much I miss since moving here. Maybe the shopping as it can be abit expensive in the Bahamas so I'd have to say I miss my Wal-Mart ;-). But other than that nothing much.
Did The Bahamas bring you any surprises? Which ones?
Ohhh yes it did, too many to list here......LOL LOL. Visiting the Bahamas is one thing, living here is something else. The most surprising thing was I'd say was the pace of the place, everything is laid back (family Island) and the complete opposite in the cities, it still surprises me that I could sit in traffic for 1hr or more on an island so small.
Any advices to give to the readers?
My advice would be is to travel to as many islands as you can. The Bahamas is not a country, its like many little countries rolled into one Big Beautiful pot. Each island is unique in customs, people, tradidion and scenery. Most people tend to stay in the cities (Nassau/Freeport), but you haven't truely seen the Bahamas, until you've set foot on a family island.
Do you have something else you would like to share with us?
The cost of living is slightly higher than that of other islands in the West Indies/Caribbean. If you decide to make the move here, make sure you've done your homework in terms of Immigration laws, property cost and budget for living. The food is also the best you'd find anywhere, so indulge yourself and don't be afraid to ask for recipes.... If you haven't had Conch Salad and a Cold Kalik yet, what are you waiting for? Also if you're coming from a cold country, the summer months can be abit harsh as it get pretty hot here from June to around November. The Bahamas has sunshine 315 days a year. Hurricane season runs June 1 - November 30th.
