Bahamas Surf Report – February 2012 |

Probably some of the best days this forecaster has had surfing in the Bahamas have been in the month of February.
The water takes on its winter blue, cool ocean temperatures contrast perfectly with sun-warmed air and here come those north swells.
There’s almost always some kind of swell in the water this month, ranging anywhere from 2 to 20 feet.
Look for breaks that work well on north and northeast swells. Some of the more powerful low pressure systems even send in swells with a more easterly direction as they work their way out into the Atlantic.
More importantly, those aforementioned fronts usually whip the tip of their tail across the Bahamas bringing northerly winds that quickly clock around to the south – meaning offshore conditions at a lot of breaks.
If your quiver allows, have something for sizable waves as well as those nice little 2 to 4 foot days.
Water temperatures will dip near 70 degrees in some of the more northern islands and mid -70’s further south. We are enjoying a warmer than average winter and water temperature reflect that.
Eleuthera note: The Second Annual Pineapple Jam Music Festival is slated for this March in Gregory Town. Last year’s Jam saw over 15 local bands perform and hundreds of people turn out for food, libations and the tunes.
